Teach Your Children About Money.
Introducing the book I have created specifically for my clients
Practical, Well Grounded, and Wise
“As a parent of nine children, a financial planning practitioner, and adjunct professor of financial planning, I have approached this topic of teaching children about money from many perspectives. Linda’s approach is practical, well-grounded, and wise. Her encouragement to start, and to make it a learning process, is so wise—at once simple yet profound. I have passed my copy of her book to my adult children to use in teaching their children.”

If you have been wondering about a particular situation with your child, or just in general how to teach them about money, you’re not the only one. Often when I’m working with clients, they will have questions about some aspect of money that they would like to help their child with. Just as often, though, we have plenty to cover in terms of the adult finances, and so the questions about the children tend to get back-burnered. So I find myself wishing that I had a book that I could hand to people, to let them get started… And here it is!
The journey to teach our children about money can be quite a trip.
Often we learn as much as they do (and not just about money). In this small book, I give guidelines on how to start teaching your children about this critical subject that, as parents, we sometimes wonder how to approach. I show you how to help them learn about themselves, and try different ways of working with their money. The book covers ages from birth until they leave home, with a special section for college.
If you have any questions as you read it, or have a specific situation that isn’t covered, don’t hesitate to contact me. Our discussion will let me know what to add in the next edition!

One of the most interesting, and often entertaining, pieces of parenting for me, has been teaching my children about money. In many ways, it is a microcosm of parenting in general, not least because it is a classic “hero’s journey”. Unless we somehow come in with a crystal clear blueprint (and even as a financial coach, I certainly didn’t!), the whole thing seems kind of murky and confusing at first. We’re not sure exactly what to do, we try this, we try that. We are not sure how it will turn out, or whether we are doing the right thing. We make mistakes. And then gradually over the years as our children grow up, we can start to see the lessons sink in …
